• Fleet’s a huge failure! Locked Twitter

Fleets work similarly to status on WhatsApp and Stories on Instagram. Fleets posts will automatically disappear after 24 hours, similar to status. But this feature did not achieve the expected results.

    Highlights:

    • Twitter has announced that the Fleets feature will be operational from the third of next month.
    • The explanation is that Fleets is skipping to pay more attention to the space features feature that Twitter recently introduced.
    • When Fleets was introduced, it was criticized as a copycat of Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status.

In June last year, the micro-blogging website Twitter Fleets introduced the feature. Fleets work similarly to status on WhatsApp and Stories on Instagram. Fleets post will automatically disappear after 24 hours, similar to status. Fleets posts cannot be liked or retweeted as normal tweets. Fleets, who generally aimed at more users on Twitter with a slightly ‘serious’ complexion, did not achieve the expected success.

Twitter is preparing to withdraw the Fleets feature eight months later. Twitter has announced that the Fleets feature will be operational from the third of next month. The explanation is that Fleets is avoiding paying more attention to the recently introduced spaces feature on Twitter to compete with the clubhouse. Moreover, Twitter admits that the fleets have not ‘clicked’ or gained popularity as expected.

“We hoped that Fleet do make Twitter more popular and active, but since we introduced to Fleet, we have not seen an increase in the number of new people using the system,” said Ilya Brown, Twitter’s Product Vice President.

When Fleets was introduced, it was criticized as a copycat of Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status. If this feature had been made available to all Twitter users in November last year, there would have been no significant response. Last month, Twitter came up with a plan to include ads in Fleets, but later abandoned it.
