• Great strategy of Jio-Google! JioPhone Next will reach door to door, and focuses more on these users.

There will be basic hardware features by JioPhone Next and that might not work on the latest Android operating system. This is why Google created strip down and optimization of Android version for the JioPhone Next.

Telecom company Reliance Jio did make a recent announcement of JioPhone Next and with this 4G feature, the phone was introduced during the company’s 47th Annual General Meeting. Also to note a fact is that It seems that the company, launched its first feature phone, JioPhone, in 2017 which got realized that the device running on KaiOS was not digital enough. However, Jio partners now with Google and offers smartphones that run a strip-down version of Android giving its users access to the Google Play Store.

Like iPhone 11 and 12 which was launched, the iPhone 13 can also come in many colours. Meanwhile, iPhone Pro and Pro Max offer with less colour options.

There is basic hardware features that JioPhone Next offers and may not work on the latest Android Operating System. This is why Google creates a stripped-down and also do optimize Android version for the JioPhone Next. However, by doing this, JioPhone Next will access 320 million users who use 2G enabled feature phones and also will reach 540 million people still looking for buying their first mobile device.

Both Google and Jio with a population of 1.39 billion people with only 61 per cent having mobile phones proved by JioPhone Next and this phone subsidized by the users and able to afford it.

There is a recent report by Counterpoint Research which states that “Out of 850 million unique mobile phone users, around 530 million are smartphone users and while about 320 million are feature phone users. With JioPhone Next, there is a target potential of 520 million users by JioPhone Next and these do include about 150 million unconnected, 50 million second hand/used smartphone users and 320 million feature phone users.

Jio does have a user base of 425 million and in order to increase this number, it will have to move 2G users and then to 4G. The company works on a launch of phones with a better chipset, battery, and camera models in less than Rs 3,000. However, also Jio’s partnership with Google do make it a point in aiming to strike a balance of expectation and cost.

Google will launch an optimized version of Android as told by them and it is being called a lighter version of Android. This software also will optimize so that it can work on basic hardware.
